Andrew Maldonado

President

I was inspired to start MADE because I wanted to create a space where creativity and engineering could intersect, allowing students to explore innovative projects like 3D-printed artwork, wearable technology, and stage production. With a background in fashion, I found engineering to be the perfect way to merge my respect for science with my passion for the creative arts. The number one reason I founded the club was to create a space within the field of engineering that is safe for self-expression, shedding the image of engineers as binary thinkers focused only on mechanics. My unique contributions to the club include my leadership experience and my ability to bring together diverse talents to collaborate on exciting and impactful projects.

Ellie Greer

Vice President

I was inspired to join MADE by the desire to connect students across campus who are interested in gaining unique technical skills through projects that combine artistic and engineering disciplines. My pursuit of a Mechanical Engineering degree was originally fueled by my passion for themed entertainment and its ability to create immersive stories through the intersection of technological innovation and creative design/world-building. I bring this same passion for the combination of art and engineering into MADE, as I aim to explore the different creative avenues in which engineering can be applied. During my time at UCLA, I’ve gained valuable technical skills through Bruin Formula Racing and the University Rover Challenge, and I look forward to utilizing these skills in a new setting!

Alyssa Adriano

Secretary

I was inspired to join MADE because of my passion for immersive storytelling through creativity and innovation. Initially, I wanted to pursue engineering because of my love for creating, and I was intrigued by the physicality of mechanical engineering specifically. However, I was baffled by the misconception that engineering and the arts are entirely different worlds when, in reality, the possibilities are endless when they come together. In particular, I’ve been fascinated by the application of engineering in themed entertainment, immersive experiences, and live events. On campus, I’m involved in the Bruin Ambassador Program, Engineering Ambassadors, and REMAP. For MADE, I hope to use my project coordination skills to bring people together from different backgrounds to work collaboratively and create! I cannot wait for all that is to come this year!

Alexa Palmer

I was inspired to join MADE because the intersection of the arts and engineering seemed very interesting. My interests are in music and fashion, so my contributions to the club are singing skills, music production software, sewing skills, and pattern reading for garments.

Victor Acuna

Webmaster

What motivated me to join MADE was the innovative purpose of merging art with engineering by using STEM tools to augment creative expression. My previous background in web development gave me an idea of how I could contribute to the project by building a site for the club. The purpose of utilizing these skills is to help educate others about our activities as well as document some of the club’s ambitious achievements. The ultimate goal is to promote the activities of MADE within and beyond the UCLA community so that our creative and technological accomplishments can be shared with others.

I joined MADE because I’ve always seen engineering and art as deeply connected and I want the attitude on campus to better reflect that. To that end, I’m bringing my experience as a lifelong musician and maker to facilitate collaboration between artists and engineers, help engineers embrace their creative side, and help artists utilize engineering skills to expand their horizons.

I was inspired to join MADE because I wanted to find a space to develop the intersection between engineering and the theatrical arts. I feel like the sheer amount of ingenuity and resource management you pick up on while working within technical theatre goes hand-in-hand with operating around project constraints in engineering; I have multiple years of stage/prop/lighting production under my belt, and I am ready to get this year going!

I was inspired to join MADE because of the opportunity to allow engineering students to participate in projects that are arts-focused. I hope to bring my past experiences in my internships and working on the UCLA racing team to creatively solve engineering problems created by artistic projects.
